Error Message Trust K-1 Statement A

Hi

I have a Trust K-1 and am getting an unclear Error message in the final check.

"Box code 14 Code I has been selected but no Section 199A income has been entered in Statement A"

The question is:

Where do I find "Statement A" so I can fix this? What shows up in the error message is the Schedule K-1 Worksheet (1041) form, which shows the Box 14 entry with Code I.

When you entered the information from your K1 into the system there were extra spaces to enter the information from 14 I.  Go back to where you entered the K-1 and scroll through to the final entries section.

After you have entered the amount from box 14 I the system will say "We see you have section 199A income".  You need to answer the question there about whether some or all of the income on the trust K1 came from a business (if you have section 199A income then it is business income).

Once you have answered those questions then you should be able to clear the error.  The answers about the business should be available as attachments from your K1 or by contacting the trustee.

Thank you for the response.

In the Q&A, Turbo Tax gives you 2 options for that income. One option is that the Trust income comes from a business (generally with a separate Tax ID), the second option is that its REIT dividends. Neither one applies. There is no separate business with a separate Tax ID.

Nevertheless, with your response, I answered that the income did come from a business, and put in the name of the Trust and Tax ID for the trust in the query box for the business. That appeared to work.

Maybe in future editions of TT, TT will fix the confusion.
