what do you mean? if you are saying your return was rejected becuase a social security number on the return has been used by some other taxpayer all you can do is print out and paper file.
Hi, I got an error trying to e-file in TurboTax, due to duplicate social security number. I am filing Married Filing Separately. I was able to e-file last year in TurboTax. Can you help to resolve this please?
If your saying your return was rejected due to a duplicate SSN, then you must call the IRS. Go to this link http://www.irs.gov/uac/Taxpayer-Guide-to-Identity-Theft. That rejection means someone else has used your information.
Please double check all Social Security numbers in your return against everybody's Social Security card. You can do this by clicking the Personal Info tab and going through these screens again.
Duplicate Social Security Number
FYI...Many people when they tried to add their Routing Numbers to get their Covid 19 payment from the IRS may have chosen to append their Tax Return by mistake and this is the issue. It may see as already filed when truthfully all you tried to do was give the IRS your banking info. A phone call must be made to the IRS. Make sure that the IRS Personnel Call Center has returned to work because they may still be out due to Covid 19.
It's near impossible to get through to anyone at the IRS. Not really sure what to do at this point. Maybe contact someone at TurboTax?
hey LaeJam, I think I'm encountering that problem. How did you resolve it? Should I file an extension for now?
The problem did exist because of Covid -19. Many people when they went into the IRS the only thing they could choose to add their direct banking information was ammend their taxes. This caused the duplicate social security number issue. I confirmed with Intuit that was also informed of the issue. File your taxes before 7/15/20 and it will be corrected after receipt. Print and mail in maybe is the only option.
