Dropping support for WIndows 10 for Turbotax 2025

They offered a discount on TT products to make up for that. I discovered the discount only applied to the on-line products.

That's rather interesting. Now I wonder whether the majority of ItsDeductible users also used online versions of TurboTax. After all, the offer makes sense since ItsDeductible was 100% online.

I'm done. I upgraded the one PC I have that could be upgraded. But, every time I turn around Microsoft has broken something else in Windows 11, and I will be moving everything to Linux Mint and running Windows 10 in a VirtualBox.

As I said I am done fighting this battle, I've bought H&R Block and it imported my previous Turbo Tax information just fine. At 70+ I am just tired of being abandoned by people who do not see the need to support an obsolescent or obsolete old fogey. I write both C# and GUI Python code on computers than cannot run Win 11 quite well and quite rapidly. If Intuit doesn't want my business any more, all I can quote is a great American General, "NUTS!"

All right. That's good to know.

Did it import everything (If you have any of the following), such as any capital loss or passive loss carryovers, rental property information, refunds applied from 2024 to 2025, asset depreciation or other information from a Schedule C business, etc.?

Thanks, as others may be interested in this type of practical information.

I've used TurboTax every year since 1993 except for the year when they tried to force me to buy the next tier up for my business.  I used H&R Tax Cut that year.  It imported everything except that it lost the timing in my depreciation schedules, which was painful to reconstruct.

Looks like I'll be switching to H&R again unless TT reconsiders Windows 10 support.

Yeah, great rationale NOT to switch (asset depreciation or something else that won't transfer) if it can be avoided.

I used the PDF import feature, but my return was very basic. I just like e-filing. It can also read the .tax2024 file. but, honestly I don't have a lot of complexity.

Thanks. Yes, we have a lot of folks post here that their data transferred just fine but I don't think their returns were complex either.

Actually, I use ItDeductible and have never used the online version of TurboTax.  I don't want my information stored on the cloud.  I have also always bought my TurboTax software through Costco as it always seems to be a little cheaper than any special offers that Intuit has made.  My Windows 10 machine it totally capable for the free upgrade to Windows 11, but I am using standalone Office Products as well as other software that I am not willing to risk compatibility issues with.  After all, if Intuit says that we will possibly have issues with their software, why would I risk it for software that I will use more than just once.  After many years of TurboTax, I will be switching to H&R block even though my wife has a windows 11 laptop.  I'm tired of their games.

I don't want to disillusion you and/or burst your insular bubble, but the information you input into ItsDeductible was stored on the cloud since ItsDeductible is essentially online. We also have no idea what actually occurs when ItsDeductible data is imported into TurboTax (i.e., is that a two-way street?).

Here's something else for you to chew on; your data WILL be stored in the cloud, at least temporarily, if you use H&R Block and e-file. There's simply no way to avoid that eventuality. I understand your concern but your rationale is faulty.

I predict that TT desktop will be dropped in 2026 because of the dismal 2025 sales.  Sales will be poor for 2025 because of their forced upgrade to W11 policy.  So they'll justify forcing people to online by saying the demand for desktop was low.  It's a pretty brain-dead way to run a company.

No way it will ever happen that quickly; not a chance in hell.

What? It's "brain-dead" for a company to try to maximize revenue and profits? In actuality, that's the ONLY way to run a company.

I don't see any reason they stopped supporting Windows 10 other that being lazy.   I spent almost 40 years in application programming and we went through lots of hardware and software operating systems on mainframe systems.  Later years, I did only system software work.  Other PC applications are working fine with no changes required.  Unless TT is getting down and using some core features that are only in Windows 11 operating system, there isn't any reason not to support Windows 10 And even if they are getting into that code, they could work around it.  But I don't think they want to support Windows 10 for some other reason than technical- it must be a marketing thing.  Maybe getting a kick back of some kind from hardware vendors?

Anyway, I don't care, can just use another product or take it and get it done free.  There are several places that will do us old  people's taxes for free, they think we aren't smart enough to do it ourselves.

I doubt the likes of a Dell or HP is going to pay Intuit for not supporting Windows 10.

It's more likely they simply want to wean users off desktop installs. I read a post by a desktop user several weeks ago who wrote that there was some sort of page (question) in the program that inquired as to whether they wanted to ditch desktop and switch to online.
