Dropping support for WIndows 10 for Turbotax 2025

I am another long term loyal customer on Windows 10 extended support that will NOT be "upgrading" to Windows 11.  If Intuit can't make accounting software that should, without ANY doubt, still be able to run on Windows 7, if not even older OS's, or even glance towards Linux, then no, Intuit has permanently lost my business and my recommendations to others.  If there's such a security risk, are they going to block the online version also?  Goodbye Intuit.

What an absurdity this is. So, let's break it down:

Email today regarding TT Biz and end of W10 Microsoft updates, support, security fixes.

Due to 'unique needs of biz customers', Biz customers can use TT on Windows 10 for one more year only.  Warning that doing so means you acknowledge/accept the risks of using an unsupported OS.

So, Biz customers, with unique needs that almost certain cleave towards even greater need for security, can use the unsupported OS; no requirement that the Biz customer have engaged ESU, even though doing so would mitigate that risk. In short: Biz customers can enjoy 'risky' use of the software for one year more.

Email today also regarding TT Desktop and same. Due apparently to the non-unique needs of filthy nobody end-users, no, even if you get ESU, you don't get the 'courtesy' one year to continue to use a risky, unsupported OS. Biz customers - no problem, use the risky, unsecure OS, we commoners, nope, not even that.

This makes absolutely no sense. It is TRIVIAL for the installer to check the Win 10 installation and verify if ESU is in place. I've paid for three years of ESU.  Require users to have ESU in order to continue on Win 10. "Problem" solved.

This is just plain lazy, Intuit.

Fun fact: Windows 11 is LESS secure than Windows 10. By design.

And yes, I'm aware that whimpering here about this lazy behavior by a multi-billion dollar company will accomplish nothing.

Does this "Business" use mean that users with Windows 10 Enterprise will be allowed to install and use Turbo Tax in 2025

You will receive an in-product offer to switch to our TurboTax Online Premium service at no additional cost (includes one federal and one state return)."

Google KB5070773 - this fix to be included in November's MS updates. In the meatime, you may want to leave upgrading until November. Wasted so many hours trying to fix October's update! (KB5070773 does install with a clean Windows 11 installation now.)

thanks @KarenL .  Customer Care also reached out after I mailed Office of The President to ask about this, they said that paragraph is meant to refer to the business users not personal, which would make more sense; but I told them that was really not clear at all, if so it may need further updates.

Guess what? And by the way: That statement sounds like a tacit admission that the 2025 TurboTax desktop products MAY actually install and run on Windows 10 machines.

indeed looks like this offer mentioned in the thread above is triggered when installing desktop on Win 10 (not sure other details - sharing screenshot posted in another thread below)

(nice discount on Amazon at the moment btw)

I tried Windows 10 first and got the notice that windows 11 was required plus the option to switch to TT online. Installing on Windows 11 however did not stop the repeated prompts to "Upgrade" to TT online. For all the reasons mentioned in this forum I will not do that. Their marketing department seems to be heavily invested in getting 'everyone' to switch. But. I start and end with the FORMS. I only walk through the rest of it to ensure I did not miss anything. And. Microsoft extended my Windows 10 updates for a year without any type of fuss (other than I had to log in to accomplish that and no $30 fee), but otherwise I am Never logged into their "Marketing" center. Did this on an old laptop. When I did it on my desktop, it came back and said I was already set up and it just added that machine to their list (didn't even have to log into Microsoft?). No Windows backup or OneDrive for me! and I've checked!

I upgraded to Windows 11 a few weeks ago and just tried to download TT. My screen says after I enter my License Code: "Which operating system do you use? PC/Windows (Not supported) Mac". I can only select Mac even though it's a Windows download/purchase. It doesn't make sense. Please help!!!

Are you certain you chose to download the Windows version as opposed to the Mac version?

I'm so fed up with Windows 11 and the BS updates it's downloading. Have wasted hours trying to fix to only find the fix will be in November.  The again?  TT wants to support this mess ? Going back to Windows 10. Maybe by tax time MS will have their Windows 11 act together ?

Wow! I'm a little bit late to the party.   Today I was asked to do a simple 2024 return for a friend and when I opened TT2024 I was asked to update, said yes, and nothing ..... tried a few more times and the same.   Skip update, get in, and get this message saying that TT will no longer to compatible for Windows 10..... seems that applies to older upgrades as well!    Unacceptable.

I have been using this software since the HomeTax days of 1998!   Never any issues with compatibility on older machines.   From what my computer buddy types are saying is that this should easily run of Windows 10 as the programming is pretty standard and there will really be no future updates.

I did not enroll in the MS extended updates .... I chose 0patch instead as it will allow Windows 10 computers to be used safely for years to come!    And we will continue to get updates for Windows defender as MS has to support other older Windows platforms.

This should be seriously reconsidered!    If I choose to purchase and install TT it should be at my own risk.

If the programming doesn't sway much from where it has been over the past 10 years or so it should work with no issues!   Ridiculous.

Ok I'm done.   I don't want to buy a newer computer!   I upgraded my RAM and HDD to SSD's and it runs Windows 10 like a champ (and would run Windows 11 ever better, but I'm not on the compatibility list)

Now I'm done.
