Thanks for the reply.
The desktop version seems so much easier and have a less of a chance in messing up the current online return.
The online version still poses a significant data privacy concern compared to the desktop version.
Seemed odd to me also. That's why I posted what I did. Actually, they didn't "tell me." I called them and got a recording that asked if I wanted additional information. I said, "yes," and they sent me this link in an email:
TurboTax Windows 10 Desktop Software End of Life
Did anyone else get it?
interesting... maybe @KarenL who posted that message can join the chat and help clarify what "If you purchase TurboTax Desktop for tax year 2025 and cannot install it on Windows 10" means ... so will it install on Win 10 or not? - or is this badly worded and meant "if you purchase TurboTax desktop for tax year 2025 and cannot install it because you have Windows 10" etc etc.
This page has been updated with the link to the 2025 system requirements and states "TurboTax Desktop 2025 will only run on Windows 11 (64-bit). You won’t be able to install or use TurboTax Desktop 2025 on Windows 10"
Did not get it. But I'm startled that they are now willing to support TT2025 on Win 10 for business but not for consumers. Fairness? Nah. Think: Afraid of the economic cost to Intuit from the loss of business customers. And lack of ethical considerations for (heretofore) loyal consumers. $$$ only. Still no rational justification for their unilateral decision to drop support for Win 10 - i.e. traditional desktop TT.
In addition, her rationale is erroneous in stating consumers will have to pay for extended Win 10 support. Some may have to, but many have been offered extended support at no cost.

This is a somewhat perplexing and curious statement since (a) TurboTax Business apparently will support Windows 10 and (b) ProSeries (which can read TurboTax files) will also support Windows 10.
I suppose will know in short order - the 2025 editions should be released within a couple of weeks and on pre-order well before.
Doesn't everybody have access to the extended Win 10 support at no cost? When I went to Settings>Update & Security> Windows Update there was a box that I clicked on to start the process. (I don't remember the specifics; I did it a couple of weeks ago.) Then while poking around the web I found a website that gave instructions on how to add that box if it didn't appear. My son used that information to successfully get the extended support on his PC.
Trying to ghost and upgrade clients Windows 10 onto a new SSD, then upgrading to Windows 11. Windows October update screwed that up. Read somewhere, NEW computers with a NEW Windows 11 not having the issues. Everyone trying to force us to buy new? Glad to hear that H&R Blocks 2025 Tax will work on 10. I imagine that will cause many to cross over. Heard from another client whose Internet provider told him, his Windows 10 and equipment are too old. To continue with them they needed to update and upgrade to Windows 11.
I received an email from TurboTax today, specifically stating that even people that are receiving Windows 10 ESU will not be able to use TurboTax desktop software to file taxes for 2025. My guess for the rationale of this decision is that they figured some percentage of customers will just switch to online filing. The problems with this, other than now all your tax info is on their server, is the more limited filing options (ie. multiple federal return filings on the desktop software) and I don't believe there are any options on the price to file online, but I could be wrong. I bought TurboTax 2024 Premium desktop software as a download from Amazon last November for about $35 less than retail. That's was under $100. An Oct 1st article I just read from Nerd Wallet states online pricing for TurboTax 2025 Premium is $139 federal + $64 per state return, or over $200. I think math may explain their rationale, but again I could be wrong with my assumption.
I have done research and there is FreeTaxUsa which will handle everything I need to handle for $0 fed and $14 state. That's if HR Block doesn't have a desktop version because I don't want my stuff on the cloud either. I doubt TurboTax will miss me.
I received an email saying Windows 10 is out, period. I must have 11 and I am not buying a new machine.

H&R Block does have desktop versions.

Your "stuff" is going to be on the cloud if you e-file, regardless.
Take heed !
After spending 3 days ghosting my client's computer Windows 10, and doing the Windows 11 upgrade and online upgrades several times, the October Microsoft Upgrades had issues. Then read NEW Computers with NEW Windows 11 updates had none of the issues ! Since client was purchasing a new SSD, did a clean install from the Windows 25H2 using the hack. #1 - His old computer is now Super fast !! # 2 - No Windows 11 issues !! # 3 Far more uptodate drivers installed !! # 4 Computer running far better than with the cloned 10 and updates, and without the issues. Have changed my ideas on now how to update non complient computers for my clients.
So, I recommend this way to super upgrade your non compliant computer to Windows 11, keeping it from the EV junk pile, and giving it a second life !!! It will appreciate it.
I think we all got the email cloroxmartini referred to several weeks or more back. Then Keela Robinson puts out her announcement DATED October 20, 2025. What kind of games are Turbotax playing with us? How do we contact someone from Turbotax, especially Keela Robinson to get a straight answer?
