I received an email from TurboTax today, specifically stating that even people that are receiving Windows 10 ESU will not be able to use TurboTax desktop software to file taxes for 2025. My guess for the rationale of this decision is that they figured some percentage of customers will just switch to online filing. The problems with this, other than now all your tax info is on their server, is the more limited filing options (ie. multiple federal return filings on the desktop software) and I don't believe there are any options on the price to file online, but I could be wrong. I bought TurboTax 2024 Premium desktop software as a download from Amazon last November for about $35 less than retail. That's was under $100. An Oct 1st article I just read from Nerd Wallet states online pricing for TurboTax 2025 Premium is $139 federal + $64 per state return, or over $200. I think math may explain their rationale, but again I could be wrong with my assumption.
