Form 8582 is used by noncorporate taxpayers to figure the amount of any passive activity loss (PAL) for the current tax year and to report the application of prior year unallowed PALs.
If that does not apply to you, you can try to delete the form:
Check to see if the form has been deleted, if not, then another form on your return is generating form 8582.
Tried that with live help. We were on the phone for 1.5 hours. The form is not even showing under tools for it to be deleted. This is a major issue for the self employed in Maryland.
Great so I wonder when they will fix it?
not any time soon will it be fixed I am sure
I tried to find the file too and like was said in the previous post , it is not there in the list, looks like it's going to be a long wait
Rumor is 2/10 the form will be available
Here’s hoping!
I’m tempted to pull it and put it in a different program. However, I’ve used turbo tax for so long I’d hate to do that.
Turbo Tax, it's been over three weeks now. One more TT Update and my partner's filing went thru, but mine keeps coming up against the same Form 8582! Fix the Maryland Form 8582 (Form 8582 does not exist according to Maryland Tax authorities). The form is a ZOMBIE as it reappears after being deleted. Turbo Tax laid an egg on this one! Wish I hadn't already paid Turbo Tax to file my state form ... sigh
Form 8582 is used to figure the amount of any passive activity loss, where you are not actively engaged in a business or investment, such as losses from rentals.
If this is in your Maryland tax return, our team is still working to resolve an error message in some Maryland state returns that give an error message about Form 8582 and the Activity Sheet needing an update, even if there are no passive losses to report.
If the federal forms are all finalized and the federal is ready to e-file, you can choose to file just the federal return at this time, then come back when your state forms are ready and e-file that return. The filing date for tax year 2021 Maryland state returns was extended to July 15th, 2022.
Note, if you don't e-file them together, you do have to wait until the federal is accepted before you can e-file the state. Sometimes this takes a day or even two.
Here is a TurboTax Help article with directions for when you return to file your state return.
