Does a 19 year old filing for himself with no children file a Form 8615 ?

Hello. If I am a 19 year old filing for myself and I have no children, do I answer the question under "Less Common Income" of "Child's Income (Under Age 24)"? If it means anything, I am a foster youth, and thus an independent ward of the county.

This question refers to the Form 8615.

On a related note, if I am a college student who has: 1. never had a job, 2. has made +$149 from dividends and interest, 3. has lost -$494 from stock sales. Should I file under my foster parents' tax form through the Form 8615? I saw that this Kiddie Tax is required if the child made over $2200 of unearned income.

Thank you

If you are filling your own tax return you should answer the question under "Less Common Income" of "Child's Income (Under Age 24)"? As No.  That would only apply to children that are your dependents.

If your foster parents are claiming you as a dependent they will not have to include you under the Kiddie Tax because you did not make enough un-earned income.
