Distributions from a Roth IRA and Form 8606

TurboTax provided the following information in an Article online:

TurboTax will automatically generate and fill out Form 8606 (Nondeductible IRAs) if you reported any of these on your tax return:

  1. Nondeductible contributions made to a traditional IRA
  2. Distributions from a traditional, SEP or SIMPLE IRA that had nondeductible contributions (excluding rollovers, conversions, recharacterizations, qualified charitable distributions, one-time distribution to fund an HSA, or return of certain contributions)
  3. Conversions from a traditional, SEP, or SIMPLE IRA to a Roth IRA
  4. Distributions from a Roth IRA (other than rollovers, recharacterizations, or a return of certain contributions)

My question is what Distributions from a Roth IRA will trigger Form 8606?

The reason for my question is:

  • I had a distribution from a Roth IRA (other than a rollover, a recharacterization, or a return of contributions) and I want to know if Form 8606 applies to me, and
  • I asked the very broad question "what distributions ..." instead of "Does Form 8606 apply to me under the following circumstances because I believe learning things serendipitously is one of God's gifts to human beings.

Thank you very much for any assistance I may receive.

Sincerely,

JWKinCVA
