@Mike9241: "It costs money to store an app" => Seriously????????? A tiny app in a huge organization where the ratio to the storage of customer and company information is incredibly minute. And they don't need to maintain, update or even support it. Just keep the activation alive, since they decided that they were losing money because people were giving out copies. That seems like a reasonable choice, but the consequence of that is to keep allowing people to activate it into the far future. Just because other companies pull the same c**p, doesn't make it ok.
Will TurboTax disable other user installed versions? Maybe any year they choose? Why do they offer agreement if they don't intend to honor it? I would think TurboTax is big enough and charges enough to properly maintain their licenses.
If the IRS can audit me for up to seven years, I think TurboTax should still make older versions like 2019 functional or accessible. Since it no longer works, can I get a refund or an updated way to open my old files?
If you did not create a PDF of your tax return you are out of luck. You need the program to create these documents. It’s totally irresponsible for TurboTax to disable your fully paid for software and disable your ability to retrieve your recent tax returns.
@quinnamg My 2019-2024 programs still work and opens my returns. I upgraded my notebook to Windows 11 and all my old years still opened and ran and I didn't have to reinstall or activate them.
@VolvoGirl That’s interesting mine doesn’t work at all. TurboTax 2019 won’t open anymore on my PC, even after reinstalling, It seems Intuit disabled the activation servers for older versions, so it just errors out when trying to load.
That's because I didn't reinstall it. It was working under Windows 10 and when I upgraded to Windows 11 it was still there. I'm sure if I did reinstall it or install on another computer then it would not activate or work.
My Windows 10 installation just wouldn't load anymore, demanding a code. If there is no licensing issue on their part where is the help for all that are no longer able to use our software? Their silence tells me they have no interest in resolving their software licensing problems. What other purchased and licensed versions are they going to disable. Be sure to create PDF copies of your tax form or you will lose all access to your tax returns created on their software.
