I am being prompted to pay for the free efile service when I have not filed my 5 free returns yet.  It is asking whether I want to take if from my deduction for an additional $40 or give my credit card information.  I would like to use the free file option but don't know how to choose that.  Thank you for your help!

E-filing fee in desktop software

Did you purchase desktop software with state software included?  They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose.  And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state.  There is an extra fee to e-file the state.  You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.

If you choose to have that e-filing fee deducted from your federal refund you will also be agreeing to an extra $40 refund processing fee.   Avoid it all by mailing the state return.

And wait to pay or file state.  There is currently a State Efile error in the Desktop program. Please sign up on this FAQ
