Re: Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

I have input my 1099-R because I withdrew $1596.06 in 2025. The information is correct. I also had a qualified federal disaster in 2024 for which I am trying to fill out the form 8915-F. I took out $22,000 in 2024 and did not check the box to be taxed at once (meaning I asked to spread out over 3 years. Last year’s form was fine. I did not repay the 1/3 last year nor this year. I have deleted the form 8915-F and refilled it out but I keep getting needs review and my federal and state are being rejected due to this error. I can not find an error and now sure what to do. TT already took my payment to e-file and didn’t alert me of any errors until after. I waited for the state update and still can’t efile due to unknown error I can’t resolve. Where should I go to get help and has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

The issues as I understand it:

  • 3 year payment plan
  • 8915F is deleted and returns with issue.
    • Solution: delete the worksheet for 8915 along with the 8915 and log out. Clear cache and cookies. Try again. Be sure to mark 2024 repayment -even though it isn't made yet.
    • Be sure the FEMA number is on the 8915F
    • verify your state is ready to e-file the 8915 here.

Re: Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

Thank you! I told them last year I did not repay any and allowed myself to be taxed the 1/3. I was saying the same for this year. Are you saying to amend and say I did pay the 1/3 last year and this year, even though I am not paying it back and just being taxed on it? I had hoped initially to be able to afford to repay but my finances haven’t allowed it

Re: Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

I can probably pay back one of the 1/3 but don’t have the ability to pay back both years 1/3.  Would it help this to go through  if I pay back the 1/3 from last year?

Re: Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

Hi

it’s still being rejected. The disaster was in 2024. I filled out the formed correctly in 2025 and marked that I was unable to repay the 1/3. This year I had a 1099-R for another small amount and filled it out. I filled out the 8915-F and verified the 1/3 is written on line 11 $7333 is 1/3. I marked that I was unable to pay it this year so it would be taxed. The correct disaster code is marked, the same as last year. This money was from a 401K, so I copied the info from box 11 of the form last year. This year’s form puts the info in line 12 and 14, I believe. It all matches what the instructions on the worksheet say but it is rejected and the error says that info is either missing or invalid. I copied it directly from last year’s form and put it all in the right boxes. I don’t know what to do. Is this a turbo tax error when it tries to e-file) please help! I already paid for my turbo tax and cannot use it.

Re: Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

For 2024, the instructions for Form 8915, Line 11 include a checkbox to use if you do NOT want to spread the taxable amount over 3 years. If you wanted to spread the repayment over three years, say NO, the checkbox was not checked.

If you have no other errors in your return, try skipping the Review section and go right to File and retry.
