I am having the same issue as others with a Form 8582 error message. It appears to be connected to my Maryland State tax filing. I am getting the following message when I try to complete the return and efile Federal and State taxes:
"Form 8582: Activity Description - This form is not ready to be filed due a (sic) change in the federal form. It should be available soon."
I do not file form 8582. I do not have any passive activities. What's going on?

I was able to just file my state taxes after previously e-filing only my federal taxes on Monday . The solution was to get to the point where your state tax review throws the error. From there click "FORMS" in top right heading/banner to enter the "step by step instructions and to pull up the form (8582)". If you have "0" typed on the form or any other dollar amount, you need to right click mouse and choose override and then use your delete key to remove the amount. After this was done, it solved the problem and let me file my MD state taxes at 10:14am and they were subsequently ACCEPTED at 12:52pm.
I am having the same exact problem and also in MD. I do not even file this form. I've tried to delete it but it keeps getting pulled back into my taxes.
Just crazy :(
I am in MD having the exact same problem and so is my sister.
Neither of us need to file this form … TT having a terrible glitch.
Hey - I got this from another post i'm following and just sharing here: In Maryland there is a problem with State Tax Division. I got around the problem, at least for now by NOT asking for the Maryland tax to be e-filed for now. When I only e-filed the US 1040, it went through. Apparently Maryland is trying to resolve issue. Will try re e-file for Maryland next week.
Seemed to work for him. I'll try it tomorrow.
My return does not include Form 8582 and I have no passive activities. This should not be an issue at all and I think it's a Turbotax problem rather than a Maryland problem. But I will see what comes along in any updates before February. Meanwhile I am hesitant to file Federal until the state program updates since state depends on federal. I understand that the Federal efile will work but I am concerned it will mess up a later state filing.
@SW21403, Assuming you have no passive activity losses in the current year, and none to carryover from prior years, Form 8582 is not necessary. Thus, deleting it may resolve the issue you are having with Form 8582. Follow these steps to delete Form 8582.

This does not help or solve the problem. I am using Turbotax Deluxe. I do not have Form 8582 as part of my federal or state filing, so there is nothing that I can delete, but I cannot efile the state taxes due to an error message about Form 8582. There is a serious bug in the Turbotax program for MD state taxes.
FYI - this does not work...

I was able to efile my Federal and Maryland state returns today using same approach to get around the error regarding Form 8582. This was very odd since Form 8582 is not part of my federal or state return and I do not have any passive activities, so it was hard to even find the offending form. When the message came up about finding an error, I switched to Forms View, which brought up a copy of 8582 and sure enough there was a zero in one of the entries. I used the Override function in the Edit pull down menu (or could be right-click) to delete the zero and then I was able to complete the return and file. Even after filing, I had issues with trying to print/save the return and got error messages about forms not being ready etc. I also had error messages about Child Care deductions which I do not have but after entering a few zero's I was able to complete. Very buggy Turbotax this year but at least my return went in. Federal already accepted and waiting on MD.
I follow the steps and found the list of forms, but the form 8582 is not listed in them, and yet it's still preventing me from filing because of that form. Very frustrating considering I already paid with my credit card for filing both state and federal and TurboTax won't let me nor make it easy for me to override that ridiculous software bug. Not OK at all. What's the point paying you guys hefty fees for filing if your product cannot deliver on its fundamental purpose? Better go to a live tax expert like HR Block, pay the same fee or less, and get the job done. It's too frustrating to keep seeing your message telling us that the issue will be fixed "soon" while we know that "soon" can be a day or a month or more. So we just wait on you indefinitely while our own needs won't wait on us???
Are you using the disc or the online version?
I followed you step but I see no interface like the one you're describing.
I am experiencing the same issue. None of the suggestions mentioned in the replies help. I spoke to someone at TurboTax - he wasn't able to help. Nor was his manager. Seriously? Yet, I had to pay TT, but am unable to file. How is this still an issue after it being known for 2 weeks.
It depends. Please view this Turbo Tax link and sign to get follow-up notifications when the issue is resolved.
This worked great, many thanks! For others... I had to scroll up and delete a random zero that was higher up on the form.
