Can someone clarify the State filing 1095 portion if I qualify for a gap exemption?

I lived in a state that requires health insurance for 2019.  I only missed one month due to a job change and received an exemption code.  The instructions for this portion however are very confusing, and can not figure out where to report months covered by insurance as well as months exempt.

Enter the 1095-A only on your Federal return. If you have a 1095-B or 1095-C, these are for your records only and do not need to be entered on your return.

Follow these steps:

  • Click on Deductions & Credits under Federal
  • Under the menu for Medical, click Start/Revisit next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
  • Answer Yes indicating that you have the form to enter
  • Complete the information on the next screen to match your form and click continue

As the individual responsibility payment has been reduced to $0 for the Federal requirement, you no longer have to report the exemption on the Federal side. Review your state return. You should see an area for your health insurance question where you can enter the exemption. Each state is slightly different. Which state are you referring to? We may be able to better guide you.
