Can I Use Different Filing Methods for Federal and State?

Can I file my Federal return using paper (i.e., snail-mail) and file my State return using E-File?  Or, must I use the same method for both Federal and State?  Please advise.  Many thanks.

Can I Use Different Filing Methods for Federal and State?

You can e-file both, or mail both.   A state return cannot be e-filed unless the federal return has been e-filed successfully and has been accepted by the IRS.   If you file federal by mail, you have to file the state by mail too.

You are allowed to e-file federal and snail mail the state if you want to.
