CA_MCTR_Payment - rejection

Hey everyone quick question here. I live in California and recently filed our taxes. It keeps giving me the error code and rejecting it due to the CA_MCTR_Payment - There is a potential issue related to Form 1099-Miscellaneous.

it said there was suppose to be an update today to fix it and I keep logging in and trying to fix it and once I think it’s fixed it rejects it again.

has anyone successfully filed this and not gotten a rejection? What are we suppose to be doing with this?!

    I don't think they have fixed it yet even though there was a Jan 27 update.  Seems like the problem is for joint filers with no way to separate who the 1099 is for when it is made out to both.  Brilliant.  Last thing I heard was there was going to be an update Jan 27.  I've looked and I can't see any changes to the 1099.  Error check says it's ok but others say they are still getting rejected...so wait till Tuesday.  Good luck.

    I was able to have my returns update and efile and be accepted today....I stopped calling Turbo Tax. I read the back of my 1099misc regarding box # 3...went in and deleted where I had it in wages and income, and inserted it under common other misc. income that does address 1099misc forms. followed the instructions...under payer I typed State of California Franchise Tax Board...verified the format and their TIN # inserted the $ amount in box 3...hit continued and chose the Ca MCTR box...continued on and when asked to give it a label name I typed in what they said just like this "CA MCTR" with the quotation marks at the bottom of page came up not taxable and continued on and marked the fix returns for both Fed and State verified everything and efiled and waited for the emails...1st email is returns have been sent and then waited for the rejection to come within the 15 minutes like we all have done several times....they were both accepted and remain accepted...this is basically what I did, I know that you will understand what to do as we all have tried at least 4 times to do this...the only thing different eas puttinf the quotations marks on the the labrl identifier....why did Turbo Tax not know this? I even had problems with my disc that came all scratched and corrupted files on my computer which thay did fix...I have been dealing with TT problems since 1/14/23....hope this helps....this is what I did and was successful...did not want to wait until 1/30/23....I had nothing to lose to try one more time!

    Just got off the phone with a rep named Keshawn.  She told me that it is a known glitch and that she was advised by her supervisor to tell customers to wait to try to submit again until late next week.  She also said that if you try and get rejected 5 times, you can no longer e-file.  I did not know that.

    She was very helpful and I am glad I talked to her.

    Still not fixed as of today 1/28/23.  Also, I noticed the CA MCTR is counted as income on my California tax form and it shouldn't be.   On Schedule CA (540), in Part 1, Section B, line 8z, it's wrongly listed as income.  No way for me to fix it.

    @Phil H people that are getting accepted are deleting the 1099 logging out then logging back in and adding it again.

    I bought turbo tax , and you have 5 taxes that are able to efile with the program. My questions is I got my personal taxes rejected twice on Friday for the MCTR payment, so do I have 3 taxes to efile left or 4? . My family and I, we use the same software each year, so this year we will need to get a new one or what is going to happen, I think turbo tax should fix this and dont count the rejections for this code.

    @Ale11

    I believe that the 5-file-rule means once you successfully file - you can start 4 other returns for any other individual. So, it's not per file (attempt) but per person/profile/successful file. Meaning one purchase could essentially help an entire household file instead of each household member having to purchase TurboTax individually. If there is a threshold rule on attempts... I am not aware of any. And I hope there is not a threshold on attempts seeming as many of us have to troubleshoot this issue over and over again.

    @AlwaysSunny

    Mine just got accepted yesterday night. I followed you guys advice of deleting the form 1099-MISC and entering again. I think it is a good idea to delete it because by doing that your refund amount changes it , and like it was fixed to be not taxable you get a little bit more of a refund.

    As for the 5 efile rule , I will keep you posted once my family members try to do their taxes. Fingers cross the rejections dont count because on my 3rd try the taxes were accepted.

    Got this working, there are few steps that I had manually do it, go to Federal, under wages and income, I need to 1099 Misc, for MCTR.

    I had repeat the same for state returns too.

    After doing that my tax returns we accepted.

    Yes I’ve tried everything, I’ve talked to about 8 people from turbo tax for help , they seem not to know why this is happening, finally I just requested my refund , you will have to go get your taxes done elsewhere this form 1099- misc real gave a lot  of people problems .

    Good morning. I read through so many of these responses for the last 2 days! I did the suggested, “delete the 1099 and redo it” I just got an email that it was finally accepted. It was denied 6 times, so I don't think the 5 time tules applies to this.

    I did put the payment in with the “ “ for good measure. Good luck everybody!! Thank you all for the help!

    Good morning after being denied twice I was finally accepted. I didn’t want to wait until Tuesday so I deleted the 1099 from (wages & income) signed out. Signed back in & input the 1099 as (other common income 1099-MISC) I answered the questions input State of California Franchise Board. The tax payer # & input the amount on box # 3 but most importantly I added the quotation marks when it asked for description “CA MCTR” I then selected the California Middle Class Refund option and saved it. Went over both Federal & State saved & re filed. I had done this before but the fact that I deleted the form, signed out, signed back in this time I added the quotation marks might of helped.

    I received less than $600. I did not get a 1099-misc form. However, I'm reporting my receipt of $350 in Turbo Tax by answering yes to the question if I got a 1099-misc. I can enter the amt in box 3 as $350, the payer as California State Franchise Tax Board & descriptive reason for this 1099-misc as "CA MCTR," but not the 9 digit payer federal id EIN number or TIN# as I don't have that. Does anyone know what that taxpayer id # is that's shown on the 1099-misc?
