Hi, I am trying to file the 2019 tax return using the desktop version as an online option is not available. I tried downloading the 2018 tax pdf and transferring it. It transferred my information but did not transfer all the important carryovers, in other words, it is not 100 percent transfer of data.
desktop version should be able to retrieve my data online, it appears to be not there yet.
any help is appreciated,
shawn

Transfer from a 2018 PDF only provides limited information. You actually need the *.tax2018 data file to effect a full transfer. Since you were able to get the 2018 PDF from your online account, you should also be able to download the 2018 tax data file in the same place, i.e., in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents."
Once you have the *.tax2018 data file downloaded, and if using Windows, the best location to place it is the Documents\TurboTax folder. Then launch your 2019 desktop TurboTax, and at the main screen click in the top left corner of the interface on the FILE menu then choose "NEW Tax Return." It will then churn and look for a *.tax2018 data file and ask you if you want to transfer from it. If it doesn't find it, you can use the Browse button to point TurboTax to its location.
Your answer helped and thank you for the same. Downloading Dat file is a challenge as pdf is an easy download. During Dat file download TT start running scripts to sell software(which I already have as desktop edition.) I believe the option one has to choose is to amend the tax return then dat file downloads.
thanks,shawn
