After spending days going through the TT online version and my impending filing deadline just a few days away, I came across this section which says to check for "unusual situations". Since the section in bold applies to me, now what? I have already paid for the online version but haven't filed yet.
Here are a few unusual situations relating to Form 1116 that are not handled in Interview:
- Foreign taxes paid in foreign currency and you converted the amounts to U.S. dollars
- Some interest, dividends, partnership, S corporation, or estate and trust foreign tax paid should be reported on Schedule A, and some should be reported on Form 1116
If any of these situations apply to you, you cannot use TurboTax Online to prepare your return.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
@Anonymous_ That is incorrect. The link you provided is to switch from desktop to online, but not online to desktop.
@Anonymous_ No. That doesn't work either. It clearly says:
You can transfer your tax data file (with a filename extension .tax [year], such as .tax2022) only if you're switching a prior year return.
The link that @Anonymous_ gave you in his first reply above is correct. The line in italics at the top of the FAQ is giving you a link to different instructions if you want to switch the other way. The instructions that you need start on the second line.
How do I switch from TurboTax Online to TurboTax Desktop?
@rjs I don't understand. That link you provided asks me to have to select (purchase?) the desktop version. As I stated previously, I already PAID for the 2023 online version.
You will have to call TurboTax customer service, explain the situation, and ask them to give you a free download of the desktop software.
