If you're lucky, the *.tax2024 data file may have only become dissociated from the TurboTax interface. If using the Windows version, look first in the Documents\TurboTax folder, which is the default location. If not there, do a search of your entire computer system for any file ending in *.tax2024 and also look in the Recycle Bin or Trash.
If your computer has more than one user account, such as a Windows admin account and a user account, do the search in each Windows account. A user reported his had been moved to the admin account. If you have any backup system like OneDrive, Time Machine, etc. also look there.
Because of stories like this that occasionally turn up in this user forum, I've gotten accustomed to backing up my data file to a thumb drive after every working session as a "just in case" maneuver.
