1099R with two states automatically updating total to prorated amount

I am entering a 1099R for a qualified plan into Turbotax Premier desktop for Mac 2024

I enter the information from the 1099-R.

TT then asks me about the states I have lived in (MI and IL).  It then asks me the pro-rated amount for IL.  And then it automatically changes the total on the 1099-R to the IL amount.

It seems that there was a thread on this in 2020 (State tax portion popluated automatically on 1040) but I cannot access that thread.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

1099R with two states automatically updating total to prorated amount

I want to understand your user experience...

You initially lived in Michigan, then moved to Illinois during 2024, right?

What were the entries for boxes 14-16 for the two states?

Was this a single distribution or a monthly distribution?

If a single distribution, what state were you living in at that time?

You said the following: "TT then asks me about the states I have lived in (MI and IL)."

It asked you which states first, right? Then for each state it asked you for the source of the distribution (e.g., in both states, military pensions are excluded), right?

"It then asks me the pro-rated amount for IL.

Is this in the 1099-R interview or when you go to the Illinois interview?

"And then it automatically changes the total on the 1099-R to the IL amount."

Again, where are you when TurboTax does this?

And are you saying that the Michigan amount is changed to the Illinois amount?
