Do you mean that you switched from Marketplace insurance to MediCal last January 2024? Did you receive a Form 1095-A?  Please clarify.

Yes, That's right. I only paid for January, so I received a 1095-A. What should I do?

I also received my 1095-B.

You only need to enter the 1095-A to reconcile your Premium Tax Credit. Not the 1095-B (that's for your information).

To enter your health insurance reported on Form 1095-A refer to the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter my 1095-A?

On the 1095-A, the amounts are listed only for A. Monthly enrollment premiums and B. Monthly second lowest cost silver plan (SLCSP) premium for January, and C is blank, 0, so a tax file cannot be created. Can I just ignore this and not file it? Otherwise I can't file it and I can't proceed.

I have a 1095-B and I only paid 1095-A in January, so I don't think I need to file it.

No, since you received a 1095-A, you have to add it to your return.

Column C is "Monthly advance payment of premium tax credit", that is, how much the government paid towards your health care premiums.

If they paid nothing, then you are likely to get some Premium Tax Credit on your return, so you want to do this.

"Otherwise I can't file it and I can't proceed." Why can't you file and proceed? What's stopping you? Tell me the specific error message.

On the 1095-A I received from the Health Insurance Marketplace, the January amount for C. Monthly advance payment of premium tax credit is 0, and the amounts for A and B for January are written, and from February onwards, both A and B are 0.

The error display is as follows:
Form 1095-A - Monthly Premium SLCSP has a zero entered. The corresponding entries for this month are zero or blank, please delete this zero.

For January - enter the amounts from column A and B, and enter 0 in column C.    Leave the rest of the form, lines Feb-Dec & columns A-C  blank, leave those fields empty (don't enter zeros).   Then scroll down and click Done.   You should only have one zero entered - for January column C.

You still need to enter the policy number (last 15 characters) and the marketplace identifier at the top.

Only column A and column B contain amounts for January. Column C is 0. From February onwards, all are 0. (Since I switched to Medecal)
