Questions regarding amending

On my original tax return I had forgotten to mark down that someone could/is going to claim me as a dependent. Originally it said I was going to receive $1491 on the return, although a few days later I remembered about my parent claiming me on their return. So I amended my original return and it had said I owe $1400 now. The $1400 was just withdrawn from my bank acc. though I never received the original $1491.

(I have $91 in Federal income tax withheld)

So my question is: Will I receive a deposit for the $1491, since originally they overpaid? Or is there something more I need to do?

Thanks

If you filed before your parents did, and they claimed you as a dependent, they wouldn't be able to e-file their return.

You amended your return too soon, that is another issue. You might need to amend your return again to claim your payment as a refund.

If your parents received the 3rd stimulus payment ($1400) on your behalf already, you will not receive the $1491 claimed on your original return.

Work with your parents and ask them if they have filed, whether they claimed you on their return, etc.

They have not filed yet, and did not receive the third stimulus payment on my behalf. but how would I go about amending my return again to claim my payment as a refund?

The IRS MOST LIKELY will refund the $1,491 (the second payment you made plus the 91 refund) but it might take a bit of time.

You should expect a letter from the IRS explaining your next steps.

You MAY need to amend a second time to get that 1,400 back, but as I say, most likely they will adjust your original return and then the amended return as well.

You might check the IRS Your Online Account to see what the IRS has listed.

This is a textbook example of why you never amend until everything on your return has been processed.  You will get the $1400 back but may wait for a long time for that to happen.  The IRS is behind this year and having an amend before the original processed might put your return in someone's to do pile.  Your best move now is to consider this savings that one day will appear in your account again, possibly with interest if it takes more than six months.

Is there a deadline for me to re-amend? If so, how long should I wait until I re-amend?

Three years after you file is the deadline for amend
