Questions about Costco TurboTax Premier download.

Hi all.

I bought the Costco TurboTax Premier 2023 Download, which includes 5 fed returns, with the hopes of sharing the 'license' with my family.

Now, I have a lot of questions:

1- I assume the answer for this one is no, but: Is there ANY way for my license to be used on multiple accounts?

2- Can I create a throwaway account just for this, and share said account, so that everyone can file under that, without having access to my main account?

2.a- If so, let's say I file my taxes using the throwaway account, is there any way to upload that return to my account, so that it's under my documents (at the website) for future years? I assume TurboTax won't automatically pair that return to my account based on my SSN.

3- IF I can't do the throwaway account thing, if my family installs the software on their computer using my main account, will they have access to my previous years? Would they need my password?

3.b- I assume I won't have access to their returns if they install in their own computer?

3.c- Pretty much same as 2.b: can they upload their return to their computer?

The TurboTax user license allows one user to install copies of TurboTax on up to five computers that the user owns. You can also prepare multiple returns, including returns for other people. But the license does not allow, and has never allowed, one copy to be shared among different people.  This year, that license is being enforced by requiring users to log into their TurboTax online account when they install the program for the first time. This locks one particular copy of the program and one license code to one user account. The only way you could install the program on a computer that you do not own, would be to give the other person your online username and password. And even though that workaround might allow the installation, it’s still a violation of the license.  

They would have to use your account, but they would not be able to see your return.

Ok I'll give it a shot.....

1.  No.

2.   Maybe.

2a  Returns done in the Desktop program are only on that computer.  It will not be saved, stored or uploaded to any  online account.  You need to save the .tax2023 data file on your computer to transfer into next year.  So be sure to save returns as both the pdf file and .tax 2023 file.

3.   No, they won't be able to see your returns unless they use your computer.
