Question

My wife and I live in the same state but we have 2 different households. We do not live together and was wondering since we do not and we two different address on our W2. Can we file married but separate. She had kids that she takes care of and they live with her. And I have my mother who lives with me and I take care of her. So what should we do.

Question

You can absolutely choose to file married filing separately, even if you lived together. If you didn't live together during the last six months of the year, your wife may be able to file as head of household since she has the children. Your filing status would have to be married filing separately, unless there were children living with you as well.
