Question regarding TC-40W

I have an error that shows up when I review my state taxes. It says my Withholding ID number must be 14 characters long with no hyphens. It highlights it on the form in red, but I can't change it and even if I could it is showing the right ID number. Any suggestions on what to do about this?

Question regarding TC-40W

There's a few tricks that have worked to fix this issue

  • If your state ID starts or ends with "WTH",  enter it lower case, Ex: "wth12345678901"or "12345678901wth" (Switching to lower case "wth" has worked for most people. Do not enter hyphens or spaces. Also, you will need to this for any Utah form that contain a State Payer ID; W-2, 1099's etc.
  • Go back to the federal section where you input the W-2. Completely remove the entry of the state ID and enter it again. You can also try deleting the W-2 itself and re-enter it.
