Question on Fiduciary Title for form 1041 on an estate.

My mother had a revocable living trust in CA and passed away in 2022.  I am the successor trustee of her living trust.  I am using TurboTax Business to file taxes on her estate for the period of time after her death.  TurboTax inserts Executor as the fiduciary title but I am actually a successor trustee.  I can override the title in the actually 1041 form but I cannot do so for the CA equivalent form 541.  Is the proper fiduciary title in my case okay to be executor as my title to be consistent on both forms?

When you started the return (1041), did you choose to start a return for a trust or estate?

I chose "Estate" since this is someone who passed away and there may be a will.  There is a pour over will included in her Living Trust.

Regardless, you can change the fiduciary title in Forms Mode on the Worksheet.

I can for the Form 1041 but not for the CA form 541.  I just want to be consistent with how I sign my title on the IRS Form 56.  It's confusing if I am considered executor or successor trustee in this case.

If you are filing a return for a trust (which appears to be the case), then you are a trustee.
