Quarterly tax payments

I paid quarterly federal taxes last year, but the TurboTax program didn't allow for those payments when it calculated the amount I owe this year. If I pay the amount Turbo tax calculated, I will have paid too much. What should I do?

Quarterly tax payments

Turbotax does not assume they were paid. Therefore they must be entered manually.

If you’ve made estimated or quarterly tax payments in 2023 toward your federal, state, or local taxes, follow these steps to enter them in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Go to the Federal section, then Deductions & Credits.
  3. You can also search for estimated tax payments and select the Jump to option in the search results.
  4. Select Estimates and Other Taxes Paid.
  5. Click Start or Revisit next to Estimated Tax Payments.
  6. Choose Start next to the type of estimated tax payment you’d like to enter.
  7. Enter the amount of estimated tax you paid at each of the quarterly due dates.

Pay and hope the IRS recalculates your refund for you.

OR

Find the entry point in TurboTax to enter the amount of Estimated Tax payments .
