I have been retained as an expert witness for a lawsuit that lasted for over two years now. I have been continuously working on the case, providing my expert opinion and documenting them in reports. I have received over $100,000 in 2022 for my service. Is this considered a qualified business income? Thanks.

QBI almost certainly. the more difficult question is whether your activity is a Specified Service Trade or Business which can result in a more limited QBI eligibility, you did not specify what your normal profession is.

Thanks for the answer. My main job is a university professor conducting research in computer science. I use my knowledge and skills to provide my professional/expert opinion in my reports.
