Processing Fee

It is not a fee to file.   If you are referring to the refund processing fee it is the fee to have a third party bank extract your TurboTax fees from your federal refund and then forward the rest of the refund to you.   You can avoid that fee by paying your fees upfront using a credit/debit card.

The Refund Processing Fee or the Pay with Refund fee is when you select to have any TurboTax fees paid from your federal tax refund.  There is a $40 service charge for the completely optional service.

Go back through the File section of the program and select to pay any fees with a credit card.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for removing the pay with refund fee - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/downgrading/help/how-do-i-remove-pay-with-my-refund-fees-in-turbot...

What program did you purchase?  The Online web version or the Desktop CD/Download program?  $40 could be for several different things.  Like to buy a state program in the Desktop program.

Or the $40 Pay with Refund service charge to have a fee deducted from your refund.  Like for any online fees or the Desktop $20 state efile fee.
