Primary tax payer

I've used Turbo tax for years! My husband and I got married over 10 years ago and I just added him to my account as secondary  Back then. I no longer work. Should I start a new account with him first or leave it? He is also self employed with a schedule C form. Thanks

It is not necessary to change the order of the taxpayers on a tax return that is being filed as Married Filing Jointly.  Who receives the most taxable income or has no income at all is not relevant on the tax return.

The IRS does not care who is first on the return.  Changing the account is just extra work for you and accomplishes nothing.  It gives you two accounts to keep track of and could cause confusion.

I would suggest you leave everything as it is as long as the two of you are married to each other.

Thank you! I was thinking of the hassle as well!
