So disappointing. Another group of "thinkers" that decide what is good for you to know, and when, because you are too stupid

Horrible change. Add it back plz. The app on my pixel phone shows it, I don't know why you wouldn't show it on the browser.

Same with me! The "explain my taxes" feature is gone. I still have the running total refund/tax due, but I don't have the "explain my taxes." So while I can see what my running total tax due is, I can't figure out how TurboTax got to that number because they have removed the "explain my taxes" feature!! Others in this thread have reported the same issue with "explain my taxes" disappearing. The frustrating thing is that it was there for me about a week ago.

Dear TurboTax / Intuit.. I have been using TurboTax for 15 years.. Like the OP above, I value having the running tracker at the top of the screen so that I can track very quickly what I may owe.

Removing that feature was one of the dumbest design decisions you could have made, and it's actually making me consider filing with a different product SIMPLY OUT OF SPITE this year because you removed the running refund / amount owed tracker.

I  hate 2024 product.  without the tracker it's  pretty much worthless... Yes, your tax preparation software without the running calculator to show us if we owe or get a refund is a worthless product.

Totally agree. Have been using for more than 25 years (except one year due to complicated return).  I loved this feature which assured me that i was doing it right whenever i saw the number go up and down. I also kept a tally of how much refund increased due to prop taxes, donations, vehicle registrations etc.  This was not only educative but also gave me a peace of mind that TT is working in the background. Now if you have to see it, you have to go through several clicks and then come back to where you left off and sometimes it does not even get back to where I left off.  I hope customer service sees all these and makes a quick fix for this year itself so we can take advantage of this. I see that this complaint has been around for few years but TT is not doing anything.

I just hit a problem which illustrates how dangerous this change is. While filling my taxes, there is a deduction, mind you of $30000, that was obviously meant to have an impact on my taxes. But I could not see it.

Going to the end of the process, I realized, with difficulty, that there is a bug (still not fixed), that mis characterized the deduction and the impact didn't happen. Thousands of dollars impact that I almost missed.

I have spent hours with the people online, they recognize there is an issue. Still not fixed. This is crazy !!!!

I don't know how to get through to them yet. They have a huge bug that we cannot detect because we have no tracker !!

For those who are interested, the bug is when you are in a partnership, and try to deduct non-passive expenses (specifically PTET, for those who know).  These are about state taxes and can be pretty big. It will always fail as of today.

the whole thing feels like a story from Kafka, hollow .  We are screaming our distress but nobody listens. No one is even reading this, we are just spitting in the wind.

Tomorrow, I will try to talk to a human being about a serious bug that they should report to anyone in the same situation. Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to say something to someone who listens. Not that it will matter.

At least I'll have the satisfaction to know that someone heard it.

Bring it back!!  It's one of the main reasons I use Turbotax.  As a Self Employed worker, it's been vital for me to determine how much contributing to my SEP and/or HSA account will affect my return!  HELP!!

It would be helpful if the line was still there.

If you clear the cache, as someone suggested as a solution, even the line is gone.

I could not get it to reappear following any of the suggestions.  But once I went through the process of completing income and deductions - the balance suddenly appeared.  My suggestion is to put in cursory/quick numbers for a first pass then go back and do it the way you are used to and the balance will be there and change real time.

My guess is the IRS doesn't want the real time ticker at the top as it allows for easy manipulation.  Intuit cooperated... part way.
