Pensions Recorded as IRAs

The 2025 Desktop TurboTax version is including Pensions as IRAs. As a Result, Item 5, Employe Contributions on the Pension 1099-R are not being deducted from Taxable Income. Please see Token #187266981-96003933.

Pensions Recorded as IRAs

Follow these steps:

  1. Review your 1099-R entries
  2. Remove the check from the IRA checkbox.
  3. Continue
  4. The program will ask "Is the IRA box checked on your form?" Answer no.

If the IRA continues to appear, you may have A full or corrupted cache, which can cause problems in TurboTax, Sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).

Online version:

  1. Delete the form 1099-R, see How to Delete  
  2. Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:
    • Don't use Internet Explorer.
    • Clear cache and cookies,
    • Sign in using a different browser.
    • Sign in using a different device.
  3. Log back into your return.
    • Enter the information again. 

Desktop version: 

  1. Delete the form 1099-R
  2. Save your return while closing the program.
  3. Let it sit for a few minutes - really.
  4. Update the program
  5. Open
  6. Enter the information again.
