Under income tax treaties with Canada and Germany, Social Security benefits paid by those countries to US residents are treated for US income tax purposes as if they were paid under the Social Security legislation of the United States.
In other words, if you are a US resident, you would enter your Canadian CPP and OAS benefits as though you had received a Form SSA-1099 from the Social Security Administration.
Follow these steps:
- Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
- Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income.
- Click the down arrow to the right of Retirement Plans and Social Security.
- Click to the right of Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099).
- Enter as if it were Social Security payments.
