So I have done a quite a few tax returns and now completed my son's tax return. He says "Mom why do I owe? you told me to claim Single/zero on my W-4". So I looked into this further. I did the ADP calculator and then I compared it to the IRS tax chart. It seems the ADP calculator is at a lower tax then what is reflected on the IRS tax table. Has anyone else seen this as well?

No, I can't explain why ADP didn't withhold enough tax, but I can recommend that your son complete a new W-4 as soon as possible to prevent this issue for this year.

Yes, we can adjust and add more withholding but I was expecting the ADP payroll calculator would consider and align with the IRS Tax table. Since there is no personal exemption for tax year 2022 as it remains at 0, as it was for 2021, there should be some consideration especially for the Single filers so there would be less likely to owe.
