Can we pre-order the online edition of turbo tax? Why should there only be a discount for the cd or download versions?

The online TurboTax normally already starts off with a discounted price (historically) for the first few weeks, so there is no need to pre-order online TurboTax (which can't be done.)   See the complete answer I left below, including paying in advance once you start the 2016 return to lock in the price.

No, you cannot pre-order Online TurboTax.   There's no need to pre-order the online version.  The website will go live with Online TurboTax 2016 the first week in December. 

Historically, online prices are already discounted for the first few weeks, then prices increase to the regular price around the middle of March if one has not paid in advance.    You can lock-in the early season Online discounts by paying in advance once you start your 2016 online return in December, then you avoid the March increase.  

Once the product is released in December, and once we see all the details for the 2016 product, we can tell you how to pay in advance once you start your 2016 online return.

Paying for the Online program is easy BUT once you do you cannot clear everything & start over so if you fail to transfer in the prior year info when you start the return you will not be able to do so later.

Once the 2016 Online program is operational .....

To pay the TurboTax online account fees by credit card, without completing the 2016 return at this time, click on My Account at the top of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Continue.  On the next screen it will ask if you want Audit Defense, if you do not want this option just click on the Continue button.  The next screen will ask for all your credit card information so you can pay for the account.
