Passing the School District page

Hi,

I am an Ohio resident and my spouse is a non resident active duty military member. I am on the school district page where I have my district filled out and hers using the code 9999 to show that she is a nonresident. I am trying to click done but keep receiving the following error.

WARNING: 0 is not a valid School District Number. You must re-enter a valid School District Number on the Federal Forms W-2 or 1099-R input screens or you will not be eligible to electronically file your School District tax return.

Both codes are there though so I am confused on how to move forward.

Thank you

Passing the School District page

Follow these steps:

  1. Open to the federal income section.
  2. Review your local code entry for each form, for both you and your spouse.
  3. Look for zeroes
  4. Your spouse's military w2 should be completely blank for local name and amount, if it is already completely blank enter 9999 instead with blank income - not zero.
  5. Return to the OH return and verify residency dates are for the whole year 1/1/25-12/312025.
  6. If the software asks if you lived in this district, select yes since it is an out of state code.
  7. Try again to get through the school district form

If all of the above steps have failed:

  • Delete the 9999 entry and your school district information inside OH return
  • Select the online or desktop version below to continue

Online version:

  1. Delete the SD form, see How to Delete
  2. Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:
    • Don't use Internet Explorer.
    • Clear cache and cookies,
    • Sign in using a different browser.
    • Sign in using a different device.
  3. Log back into your return.
    • Enter the school district information again.

Desktop version:

  1. Delete the SD form
  2. Save your return while closing the program.
  3. Update the program
  4. Open
  5. Enter the SD information again.
