PA nonresident freelannce work

I am NY resident and received 1099 income for consultation work for a PA based firm.  According to my references, I do not have to pay nonresident PA state taxes because all work was done remotely.  I did not receive a 1099-NEC from my employer.

How do I report my earnings  on Turbotax?  Is it required to submit a PA state return even if I do not owe state taxes?

Because you did not work in Pennsylvania, you would not be required to file a Pennsylvania nonresident tax return.  In TurboTax (Personal Info section) make sure you did not indicate that you earned money in another state.  If TurboTax prompts you to start a Pennsylvania return, do not add it or delete it if you already started,

Thank you.

I had made the correction stating that did NOT earn income in another state only after starting a PA state return.  I completed the questionnaires and confirm that I do not owe any taxes in PA.  Can I simply discard the PA return? Am I under any obligation to file it just because I erroneously started the return?

No, you are no longer obligated to file a PA return.  if using Turbo Tax online, go to the the state return tab and select the trash icon tab to delete the state return.

If using Turbo Tax software, go to the forms mode in your return then if in windows, go to the file tab>remove state return. Then a dialogue box will appear and you will highlight the PA state return and select the remove button at the bottom.
