Owe Alabama

Your resident state taxes all of your income.   So, for the time you LIVED in Alabama, the income you earned in any state is taxable in AL - because it is/was your resident state.

If you were only in Alabama temporarily, that would not be considered a permanent move and you don't need to adjust your taxes for temporary absences.   If you were a resident of Michigan all of 2024, you would be considered a nonresident of AL and only owe taxes for income you earned while working in AL - which would be zero.

If your move was permanent, you file part-year resident returns for both states.   If your move was temporary, you only have one resident state and file one resident return.

Do I have to file tax returns in more than one state?
