I filed an extension and made a payment with the extension, but I then about a week later made a stupid mistake in my input and freaked out and thought I owed a lot more than I did so I made an online payment via one of the online payment processors linked from the IRS site. I now realize I've overpaid by about $5000.
I googled and it looks like I'm supposed to enter those payments on line 74d of form 5. I was able to enter them in Turbotax via an override, but now it will not let me e-file. Is there a way to enter those amounts via the interface (not via override) so I can e-file? I'm afraid if I don't enter them I won't get the proper refund.

TurboTax does not support entering a tax payment on Schedule 5 line 74 with box d checked. There is no way to enter it, either in the interview or in forms mode.
Overrides can be dangerous. An override can break the automatic calculations in unexpected ways. If you decide to file by mail with the override, check your entire tax return thoroughly to make sure that the override has not caused any errors elsewhere in the return, and that it does not change anything that should not have been changed. I would suggest printing copies of your return with and without the override, and comparing every form line by line.

TT software usually does not allow efiling with overrides. to enter both payments use forms mode. go to tax payments worksheet. enter both on line 9 make sure entry is in federal column.
