It was only $800, as an extra small summer job.  No documentation as it was for random neighbors

Extra income from mowing lawns

Extra earned income is taxable and should be reported as self employment.  You can deduct any ordinary and necessary expenses required by  you to earn this income.

In TurboTax Premier:

  • Select Federal Taxes tab
  • Wage & Income
  • Show more (if necessary)
  • Scroll to Business Income
  • Select Business income and expenses (sch C)
  • Follow the prompts to enter your income and expense for this activity

TurboTax Premier does do a simple C, try going to Less Common Income and selecting Miscellaneous Income at the bottom of the list.  Then select no 1099-MISC received.

If you select Federal Taxes, then wages & income you should see the bonus $ in front of a category.  Choose Edit and on the next screen choose update on categories that have that button.  Then go forward until you can remove or delete the amount.

Ok, another issue...it is asking for a 8919, and I don't have one. I presume it is from the $800 mowing income. I dont know how to fill out the form...specifically the reason code.

Make sure you didn't say the lawn mowing was wages.  Change an answer if this is the case, because this is not wages.  This form should not be needed.
