I am a non-resident of Illinois (do not have a residence here and am staying with a friend) but have worked remote for ~5 months this year for a NY employer. I am a resident of NY. Do I have to file Illinois taxes?

According to IL you would be a non-resident. Temporarily staying in IL does not count as residence. Here is a link for reference.
