For the box D control number, you can leave it blank; you don't need it. If you are trying to import, exit out of the import menu and select the option to type it in manually. The control number is not required to enter or e-file the W-2.
If you get errors when attempting to e-file with an empty box D, just enter any number in this format: 5 digits, space, 5 digits (for example, 12345 67890). The IRS doesn't care what's in box D.
For a second W-2 from a same employer, one suggestion could be to copy the control number from the first W-2, but backspace the last digit and change it to the number 2.
the accurate answer is that Turbo Tax changed the way they do imports, and if you do not have a control number on your W-2, you can no longer import. They have eliminated that functionality.

If you get errors when attempting to import your W-2 with an empty box D and entering the example provided above doesn't work, you can select Change how I enter my form. Then you can add your W-2 by uploading it, snapping a photo of it, or typing it in manually.
