Hello, I'm new here for TurboTax, and it's my 2nd year preparing to file my tax return, and I'm looking for some advice on which plan I should choose to help me file my 2020 tax return.
The reason I need help choosing a plan is that I think I'm currently owing taxes to IRS from 2019 tax return. I said I think because I received a mail in January saying I owe IRS X amount of taxes + penalties. However, I made my payment and there is a record on my account saying X amount is withdrawn to IRS. I was trying to make phone calls to verify my payment or my account status for almost the whole week, and I can't even get past the automated system which only tells me they received my payment and waiting to process. It's the first time I feel so hard to get a customer representative to speak to me.
So I wonder with the filing plan that the experts helping me filing taxes, can they help me with this problem? I know the problem is from 2019 and I filed it on a different website. But I believe it will still affect my 2020 tax filing if it's not solved.
If the experts can help me with that, I'd like to know which plan suits me the best. If that's not in their responsibilities, then I need to think of another way to deal with it.
And just for reference, currently, I only have 1098-T and 1098-E on hand, still waiting on my W-2.
Thank you all in advance.

If you have a receipt for payment of 2019 tax due, you are set.
visit the IRS at https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free
to find truly free federal 1040 filing. Note that some include free state as well.
Thank you for the direction. Do you mean that as long as I have my payment receipt, there should be no additional charges including penalties that occurred during the time period?
If you paid the full amount of your taxes, there would not be additional charges. If the IRS has changed your return, then there could be additional penalties and interest.
You should go ahead and file this year's return. The IRS works on the years separately.
The number for IRS payments is 800-316-6541.
The letter you received, may have a phone number to the IRS office that sent it. That would be the best method of contact.
The general number for the IRS is 800-829-1040 and you want to push as few buttons as possible to get a human. Don't enter your social.
