My son turned 18 in 2016. He is still in high school. Can I claim the child tax credit ($1000) or just the exemption? Can I file head of house if married ?

A child age 17 or older is not eligible for the Child Tax Credit.  You can still claim the personal exemption for the child if they meet the requirements under the Qualifying Child rules.  You cannot file as Head of Household if married and living with your spouse at any time in the last six months of the year.

File as Married Filing Jointly even if one spouse has little or no income.
