My job is with a nonprofit overseas. I filled out the form 673 and qualify for not having to pay federal taxes. However, it is saying online that I owe money. Help.

Although you completed the Statement for Claiming Exemption From Withholding on Foreign Earned Income Eligible for the Exclusion(s), this covers the exemption from withholding federal taxes.

Do not remove the income you have already entered.  The next step covers the exclusion of the foreign earned income.

In order to claim the foreign income exclusion, you will need to identify the foreign earned income.

To enter foreign earned income in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Federal Taxes > Wages & Income  [If you're in TT Home & Biz:  Personal > Personal Income > I'll choose what I work on]
  2. In the Less Common Income section, click on the Start/Update box next to Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion.
  3. On the screen Did You Make Any Money Outside the United States? mark Yes and click Continue.
  4. On the screen What Form(s) Was Foreign Income Reported On? mark the selection that applies and click Continue.
  5. Continue through the screens, entering the requested information.
