A spouse who is Married Filing Separately is not required to provide the Social Security card for the other spouse, although the return cannot be e-filed without the spouse's Social Security number. You will have to print and mail your return, writing UNKNOWN for his social security number.
That could depend on the State. They should have a help line. As well as IRS. You are probably going to have to file a paper return with an explanation cover. There is a lot of potential but necessary information not found in your question too. You probably should visit a tax person unless there is a very good and different answer showing up here soon.
@kiawomen the issues 1) do you use the standard deduction or itemize? both must use the same method. itemization wins out so if one itemizes both must. 2) any dependents? the custodial parent, the one the child spent the most nights, is the one that gets to claim them. 3) did you live apart from your spouse for the last 6 months of the year and if so then did you pay more than half the cost of keeping up a home for yourself and your child who lived with you for more than 6 months - if yes then you may use the head of household filing status. *****************Turbotax should be able to that you through these and any other relevant issues but if you are unsure use a pro.
