There are 2 people in my household. I purchased a downloaded copy of TTax Premiere. I installed it on my PC. The other person just tried to install a copy on their PC.
It failed with the message:
Turbotax is already running on another account. Switch users and run TTax from the other account to continue.
We each have our own account and don't plan to share (I'm not even sure where TT is getting this account information). This worked worked last year. What changed and how to install on multiple PCs? I think we are allowed up to 5 installs.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You can download it from the same Turbo Tax account the same way you did the first time. You have to download it from the same account. That won't affect the returns on different computers. Each computer will be separate. Or are they trying to log into the online version?
Technically, the license says that you may install up to five copies on computers that you own, it does not say that you can share the program with four other people. It may be the TurboTax is using a new copy protection scheme that prevents more than one instance of a license number to be used at any one time. Were you trying to install the second copy while the first copy was running? You may need to shut down the first computer to install the second copy, or at least disconnect the first computer from the Internet if you want to install the second copy while the first copy is running.
Another issue that crops up is when people buy pirated copies from non-authorized vendors who reuse license numbers.
TT was not running on the other machine at the time of the install and I wasn't logged in. I went back a couple of hours later, clicked on the TT icon (apparently it had actually installed before giving the error message) and TT proceeded to download updates and request the install code. It appears Intuit may have a bug regarding their installation/copy protection. At no time was any account information requested or provided for either install so I don't know what the message was referring to. This worked flawlessly last year.
But thanks for your response.
This was a download from a 3rd party vendor. The same download was used for both installs. I did get it to work but don't know why it originally failed. It appears to be working now and nothing else was done. The error message may have been bogus.
