I filed our business taxes (both Fed and State) with TurboTax Business on a Windows 10 machine in March. I currently have a TurboTax Advantage subscription. I am trying to move my data to a new Windows 11 machine. I have done everything that was spelled out on how to transfer:
1. Install TurboTax Business -- DONE
2. Copy data from old machine onto flashdrive and move to new machine -- DONE
3. Bring up Turbo Tax, and VOILA it should be there. NOT HAPPENING.
When I attempt to bring up my datafile in TurboTax, it says Error 199: State forms are missing. It then wants to dwonload the state forms. But the list doesn't include the forms I would need, and I already had those on the old machine (or I couldn't have filed.) I am at my wits end. The data file opens on the old machine.
To move the files from the old machine to the flash drive I have tried:
1. Copy/Paste command
2. Control C/V
3. Drag/Drop
4. I even opened TurboTax on the old machine and actually saved the filed off ("save as" command) to the flash drive location. None of these made any difference.
What do I do now?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
From your installed TurboTax Business software on your new laptop, have you opened it and accessed the state program? You may have to install the state program again before the prior tax file will work.
After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).
Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
See error 190
