Are any moving expenses from moving out of our primary residence which we converted to a rental property deductible against our rental property?

This is a very interesting questions.
If you are moving from one primary home to another then no they would not be.
I can not think of any situation when moving expenses would be deductible.
Here is something about moving expenses:
Per the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond, moving expenses are not deductible on a federal return except for certain active duty members of the military.
There are several states that allow a deduction for moving expenses on the state return: AZ, AR, CA, HI, IA, MA, MN, NJ, NY, PA and VA You can enter your moving expenses in the federal software and the information will flow to your state return.
If you live in one of the above states, you might want to research the rules for moving expenses.
I sure hope this has been helpful.
If you reply back, I will try to keep an eye open to assist further.
Please give me a thumbs up if this was helpful.

Hi jasonadodson,
Thank you for this question! Let me add my thoughts to others who have answered your question today. The IRS indicates that Moving expenses are allowable only if you are a member of the Armed Forces on active duty and, due to a military order, you move because of a permanent change of station.
There are, however, certain states that will allow expense for moving. None Federally though
Good luck to you!
