Incredibly, TurboTax has gotten rid of its old help system which provided "jump to" links to help you find things in this often very difficult to navigate program.
Since the search function no longer works, does anyone know where I can find, ON THE DESKTOP EDITION:
1) where in the program I calculate FUTURE estimated tax payments, both federal and state (virginia, if that matters)
and
2) where I calculate permissible amounts for my sole proprietorship's solo 401k (a business retirement plan)?
I cannot emphasize how misguided it was for TurboTax to change its help system. It wasn't great, but it more or less worked. The new digital assistant does not. It makes the program virtually unusable for anyone with a complex return

Did you use my steps to get to the Estimates? Or didn't they work? Let me know.
What Desktop program are you using? To get to retirement plans......
Go to Federal
Income and Expenses and then scrolling down to the Other Business Situations section.
Click Start or Update beside Self-Employed Retirement Plans.
For Desktop Home & Business version
Go to Business tab - Continue
I'll Choos e what I work on
Scroll down to Less Common Business Situations
Self Employed Retirement - Start or Update
The Jump to links should still work in the Desktop program. I'll try to post a screen shot. Yes I just tried it. Type W4 in the search box and hit Enter.
You can just type W4 in the search box at the top of your return, click on Find. Then Click on Jump To and it will take you to the estimated tax payments section. Say no to changing your W-4 and the next screen will start the estimated taxes section.
OR go to
Federal Taxes or Personal (Home&Business version)
Other Tax Situations
Other Tax Forms
Form W-4 and Estimated Taxes - Click the Start or Update button
Say No to W4. When you get to the W4 and Estimated Taxes section, say you want to adjust your income to go though all the screens.
The state estimates will be at the end of the state section. Or you can switch to Forms and play with the Estimate worksheet.
If you didn't owe or missed making the prior quarterly estimated payments and need to just calculate starting now, you can go though the Estimated Taxes section and just put $1 (one dollar) in for the quarters you missed. Then it will only figure the current and remaining quarters.
OK here's a screen shot from my Windows Home & Business prorgram.

Below is a screenshot from my Windows Home & Business program (still shows the TurboTax Digital Assistant).
Other users/testers are reporting the same issue as @mbk1; they are getting the TDA instead of the previous search box. This issue has been reported and an Admin is looking into the matter. However, the Admin stated it appears as if the TDA is going to be a permanent "feature" and we are not sure if this is rolling out slowly or not (but that appears to be the case).

@VolvoGirl Do you have the latest software updates? I believe the change was made in the May 18 update.
I should. I just updated it right now to get this screen shot. Hadn't opened my laptop for awhile so when I started TT it asked to check for Updates and I did. But I'll do another update to see if it messes it up. I have version 022.000.0690. Is that the right number? TT.exe is 2022.47.33.62
I checked under Online - View installed Updates. It says (Released 5/31/2023) Program Updates. The last one I did before today says Released 3/30/23. So I missed a few.

That's the latest release.
(But sometimes they forget to update those version numbers in Help - About TurboTax, so you can't rely on that. Sometimes two releases have the same version number.)
Does anyone know how I get to self-employed retirement plans in the Desktop program? I recall that it was hidden in a very non-obvious place.
I was able, after much searching, to find where to enter data for current year estimated

Which desktop program are you using - Home & Business, or one of the others, such as Deluxe or Premier? For Home & Business see VolvoGirl's reply above.
In Premier:
Thank you so much VolvoGirl found both things I was looking for. But what a bizarre change for Intuit to make. I assume we now have a digital assistant because artificial intelligence is all the rage and this looks like artificial intelligence. But its useless, and it replaces a system that was useful. I can't imagine that Intuit will change this--don't think that customer satisfaction is a priority for them.
